About Suzie

Suzie Notton is a skilled counselor and strategist who thrives on helping clients navigate challenging legal issues. Her practice spans litigation, counseling, investigations, and business advising. Suzie uses her experience as a former investment banker to benefit her clients by leveraging her business acumen and experience distilling complex ideas into a form that is concise, persuasive, and easy to understand. Her ability to quickly interpret the business environment at issue and the incentives at play has repeatedly enabled Suzie to craft effective legal arguments and negotiation strategies, and to achieve just and fair results for her clients. Her engaging, approachable manner, and her stellar communication skills have allowed her to guide numerous clients through high-stakes situations—both in the boardroom and the courtroom.

Suzie advises clients on a wide variety of matters, including those involving accounting issues, fraud, contract disputes, contract negotiations, employment disputes, and professional liability issues. She also advises clients on handling and responding to government subpoenas, and has represented clients before the Department of Justice and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. In addition, Suzie regularly conducts internal investigations for both public and private entities, and counsels entities on business and policy decisions.

Suzie has assisted clients at all stages of litigation—from pre-litigation negotiations all the way through trial and post-trial briefing. Suzie has also assisted clients on appeal and in arbitrations. In each case, Suzie strives to obtain fair and just results for her clients as quickly and efficiently as possible.

  • Represented former executive in defense of federal securities litigation.
  • Represented former employee in federal litigation involving claims of discrimination and retaliation, which resulted in six-figure jury verdict.
  • Represented educational institution in breach of contract dispute. 
  • Represented non-profit in business dispute.
  • Advised small business owner on various business and contract issues.

Suzie also maintains an active pro bono practice. She has worked with individuals seeking asylum, individuals on death row, and schoolchildren seeking access to literacy. As part of her pro bono work, Suzie has assisted in drafting briefs at both the trial and appellate level, as well as before the U.S. Supreme Court. She has also assisted non-profits with legal disputes.

Prior to joining Salvatore Prescott Porter & Porter, Suzie worked in the litigation group of a large U.S.-based law firm. She previously clerked for Judge Mary Beck Briscoe of the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit and Judge Edmond E. Chang of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. 

Suzie earned her J.D. magna cum laude from Northwestern University School of Law, where she was a special sections editor for the Northwestern University Law Review and elected a member of the Order of the Coif.  Suzie earned dual bachelor’s degrees in Finance and Accountancy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she graduated with highest honors and was named to the University’s Bronze Tablet.

When not practicing law, Suzie enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and reading fiction novels.
